December 2010

Ever since I was a young girl, it's been a tradition in my Dutch family to celebrate St. Nicholas every December 6th. We put out the wooden shoe with a carrot (for the horse, of course), and St. Nick leaves a basket of presents and poems that reflect – or poke fun of – the events of that year. This year St. Nick has a few things to say about MadeOn:

Goedenavond friends, lend me your ear-
It's time to reflect on MadeOn's year.

If you're not on her Facebook, you may have missed
Some of the crazy things done with the ingredient list

Take shea, for example: drop into a hot pan
Crack an egg and in minutes, a meal fit for a man

St. Nick's not so daring;
he would rather swallow raw herring.

The Power of Peppermint

Before I started making lotion, I made soap for my family and I still do. My favorite has always been peppermint soap, made with pure peppermint essential oil. The peppermint soap in a warm shower definitely wakes me up in the morning and invigorates my skin.

Now I use peppermint essential oil when making your lip balm. When I add it to a hot pot of fresh lip balm, it is so intense, it's almost intoxicating. Just one teaspoon is needed to scent 20 lip balms! My entire workroom – and eventually the entire house, gets a charge from this tiny amount of peppermint.

Here's a fact I read recently: the United States is responsible for 75% of the world's supply of peppermint, and the state of Washington produces the most peppermint oil.

Peppermint Oil in the Kitchen

Mint up your tea, ice cream, milkshakes, cookies, or other sweet treat with just a few drops of pure peppermint essential oil added to the mixture or batter. Be careful - this is not the same as peppermint extract, which requires more to flavor up your food. When using peppermint essential oil, you only need a drop or two.

LOTION COMMOTION
Where all the action is...
Plenty of action around our house last month! Our 8th child was born on November 7th, this time a GIRL! (emphasized because we have 6 boys and now 2 girls.) See her adorable photo on the About Me page.

LOTION EMOTION
What people say...

"I always seem to get too much liquid cream on my hands then can't do anything till it gets absorbed. I can already tell with your solid bars I will have no problem. It is now a couple hours since I used the bar and I can't believe with just one light use how much softer my hands really do feel."
Leslie in CT

Elizabeth in MI: "I have eczema on my hands and my fingers crack all year round - not just in the winter.  I've tried everything and my doctor even prescribed a steroid cream for my hands - which I absolutely hated using especially when dealing with my toddler!   I've been using MadeOn for about a month now and the transformation in my hands has been remarkable.  It has changed my life and my happiness in the kitchen!  I've done MORE dishes and MORE bread making in this last month and NOT ONE CRACK (and it's cold out now!)!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!"

"I ordered your lotion on a whim after reading the review from Kitchen Stewardship. It is wonderful!
Thank you for making such a quality product!"
